Obituary of Mary Margaret Schnekenburger

Peacefully at Four Counties Health Services – Newbury on Saturday, October 25, 2014, Mary Margaret Schnekenburger (nee Buttinger) of West Lorne. Mary suffered from heart disease for many years but through strength and determination she lived to be 89 years old. Devoted wife of Robert (Bob) of 65 years. Forever in the hearts of her children, Jerry, Gord (Joan), Connie Walker (Grant), Janet Doyle (Paul), Rob (Connie). Dearly loved grandma to Ben (Ashley), Danielle, Mick; Tracy (Steve) Terri (Jeff) and Jennifer; Darryl (Lori) and Dave; Erin (Ian), Jaclyn and Matt; Ty and Cole. Great grandmother to Charlie, Carter, Jaylen, Jake, Avery, Drew. Mary was the second oldest of 14 children born to the late Josefa and Jacob Buttinger of West Lorne. Dear sister of Theresa Loxterkamp; Dolores Troke (Frank); Elaine Page (Russ); Donald (Rosemarie); Ray (Linda); sister in law to Jean Buttinger, Marvin Howse, and Rick Crouch. Predeceased by brothers Jim, John, and sisters Nora, Ida, Jenny Howse, Minnie Crouch, Medesta (Dusty) McAuley. Sister-in-law to Patricia Benson (Mike), Donna Hoppe, Ann Burger (late Ken). Predeceased by sisters and brothers-in-law Jack and Marg Burger; Ray and Theresa, Don, Virginia Schnekenburger; Marge and Don Revait. Aunt Mary will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Mary lived in Fulda, Saskatchewan until the age of 21 when she moved with her parents and siblings to West Lorne. Here she met Bob and for 55 years their lives revolved around the family farm at Churchville in West Elgin. As a “farm wife and mother”, she multi-tasked; from working on the farm, to cooking, canning, gardening, planning, organizing and generally keeping everything running smoothly. The door was always open and there was always room for another place at the kitchen table. She was blessed with wonderful neighbours and friends both on the farm and at her current home in West Lorne. She was an avid sports enthusiast and nothing gave her more joy than to watch a local hockey or baseball game. She was a life-long member of St. Mary’s Parish and a strong supporter of the local community. Friends and family will be received at the WEST LORNE CHAPEL OF DENNING FUNERAL DIRECTORS 519-785-0810 on Tuesday, October 28 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Vigil Prayers will be prayed at 8:45. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 29 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Thomas Kuriacko officiating. Interment to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Online condolences accepted at www.denningfuneralhomes.com.
