I have very fond memories of Frances. We met when she was taking courses with Western University, and I had travelled to Glencoe to advise students there. I admired Frances’s determination to work on her degree, and was very pleased to attend the graduation party put on by her daughters in 1993.
Frances’s story inspired other mature students because of her persistence and joy of learning. I used Frances’s story as an illustration that course credits didn’t expire over time. There was a 62 year span between Frances’s first courses and her final one! I believe this is a record! When an article about her graduation was published by the London Free Press, other students told me “if a grandmother can do her degree, so can I!” Frances knew I shared these stories with others, and she was pleased to know her story encouraged others. Frances was a gracious and lovely person, and I am saddened to hear of her passing. My condolences to all her family….

Fran was an amazing lady, with a keen memory, and an interest in many topics. I always enjoyed visiting with her, either during church-related events, at Caledonia Gardens, or later at Bobier Villa. She always showed an interest in our family and as recently as a week or two ago, when I visited by phone, she was able to talk easily about various family and community members. I recall Fran demonstrating Tai Chi with her group; a fantastic memory for the many steps and routines. Fran will be missed by many in the communities where she lived her full life. Hugs to all of the family at this sad time, made even more challenging when you can't be together. Look forward to the celebration of her life, whenever that's possible.
