Obituary of Leslie George Welch

Peacefully, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, on Friday, February 2, 2018, Leslie “Les” George Welch, of Whitby, formerly of Rodney, passed away at the age of 93.  Born on April 17, 1924 to George Welch and Lillian (née Markey).  Beloved husband of Louise (née Watson), of Whitby.  Loving father of Janice (Jim) Paterson, of Oshawa.  Cherished grandfather of Krista Hester (Kevin) and Kyle Paterson (Heidi).  Great-grandfather of Lucas and Grady Hester and Brody and Jake Paterson.  Survived by nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by siblings, Kathleen, Arthur and Joyce.  Les served in WWII with the Royal Canadian Air Force.  In his early years, he owned and operated Welch’s Grocery Store and later, partnered with the Red and White Grocery Store in Rodney.  While Les was recognized as a business man in Rodney, he also dedicated many years to volunteering with the Kiwanis Club of Rodney, of which he joined in 1970.  In their spare time, Les and Louise enjoyed golfing, ballroom dancing and playing bridge.  A Funeral Service will be held at DENNING’S OF RODNEY, 212 Furnival Road, Rodney (519-785-0810) on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 2 p.m.  Visitation will precede the Service for two hours (12 – 2 p.m.).  Interment in Rodney Cemetery.    In lieu of flowers, donations to Calvary United Church, Rodney, would be appreciated by the family.
