Peacefully at Parkwood Hospital in London after a struggle with cancer on Friday, September 12, 2014, Philip Grainger Bartley of RR#1 Wallacetown formerly of Brantford and Cambridge, passed away at the age of 74. Devoted husband to his loving wife Diana (predeceased in 1999). Cherished father of Marlo and Nathan. Blessed son of the late Ewart and Olive Bartley of Cambridge. Brother-in-law to Edward and Janet Gelinas of Cambridge and Elizabeth Armatage of Danville, Quebec. Philip was a loving uncle of MaryAnn, Bill, John, Jane and Jason. Loving companion of Marilyn Clark and will be missed by her daughters Marcy and Tracey. Philip was actively involved in Community affairs and has received a number of awards in recognition of this. For a period of time Philip was a tutor with the Brant and District Literacy Council, a Group Committee Chairperson with the Boy Scouts, an Advisory Committee Chairperson for Mohawk College Brant/Elgin Campus, and a member of the Brant Toastmasters Club. Philip was a volunteer with the mental health services in Brantford and for many years was chairperson of the Eclipse Depression and Manic Depression Support Group in Brantford. At the provincial level, Philip was, for a time, a Regional Coordinator for the Mood Disorders Association of Ontario. He was involved with helping to determine the allocation of provincial government funds for mental health initiatives in the five county area of Waterloo, Wellington, Dufferin, Brant and Haldiman-Norfolk. Philip thoroughly enjoyed reading for pleasure and was a book collector. He was also a sci-fi fanatic, enjoying series such as Star Trek, The Enterprise & Voyager. At the age of 66 Philip learned to ride a motorcycle and loved to take his big shiny Harley Davidson Cruiser out for a ride at every opportunity, especially in the fall, he loved to ride along the lake and smell the different smoke barns. Philip will be remembered as a person who cared for others was an understanding & compassionate man, who had a smile that would warm your heart & a hug full of love, a man who gave freely of his time and enjoyed putting his effort forth for the betterment of his community.
