We were blessed to meet your precious Dad in Beattie Manor on January 9, 2019 and to sing some hymns around the Piano with dear Dad and Mom, as she played so skillfully, singing with hearts full of praise! What sweet memories you have of the many years they delighted and warmed the hearts of so many who came to Parkwood and enjoyed the weekly Parkwood Hymn Sing that Skip and Betty Patterson started back in 1970. We were delighted to see your dear Dad again at one his last visits to Parkwood Hymn Sing on June 13, 2019. May the Lord comfort your hearts in your loss of such a treasured father. As long as you live you will miss his presence, but indeed he is with Christ which is far better. "The Eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms." We sat under Skip's teaching @ Rodney Christian mission for a couple of years in the early '90's.
We recall with joy in our hearts how much Skip cared for all who walked through the doors.
Always welcoming all who felt the call of our Savior......no matter their condition.
He would call on anyone at any given Sunday to pray for the needs of the Congregation.....so inclusive of all!
( communion every Sunday! What a great idea! )
May Betty and family stay in His perfect Peace!

I grew up in the Rodney Christian Mission, as a young girl. Skip was always there with his smile and his welcome. He never did meet someone he didn't like. He loved his Lord and Savior and his ministry at the Mission, Parkwood Hospital, and his community. Everyone loved Skip and Betty. September, 9, 1973, I was baptised at Peal's Pond, what a blessing. Skip has been a faithful man.
Betty and Family my heart goes out to you with Prayer and Thanksgiving to have known Skip and the family. He is home with his Savior and King, and will be talking to so many loved ones that have gone before him, a glad reunion!
A special man to all who knew him.
Thank you Betty, Skip and family for being a part of my live.

Betty and all of the family,
Where do we begin, as Skip has been apart of our lives for numerous years. We are truly saddened and heartbroken with the passing of Skip but know that he has entered Heaven to be with Jesus.
Skip was a supportive, caring, gentle leader and a family friend that has touched all of our lives. Even being a great friend of Audrey and Tom Johnston and the many visits they had through the years.
Skip and the family have been involved with our weddings, births and funerals of loved ones and always knew the right words to help us through the good and challenging times. So many cherished memories like Christmas concerts, VBS, gospel sings, Parkwood, navigators, picnics and even watching the Rodney Fair Parade on the front lawn.
We will truly miss you and everything that you have provided to us and the community that you loved so much.
Till we meet again

Although I only called you Skip, you were the last Grandpa I had on this Earth. It was a pleasure to be around you over the years. I very much admired how you cared for your family, your community and basically any person that you could help. You are a great man that cared for so many. You are a great man to look up to. I also appreciated how you were able to lead in a gentle way. You were remarkably positive, even in the later years when aging can be more difficult. You always maintained that excellent sense of humour. Thank you so very much Skip. We love you and miss you. I pray that I will get to be around you again.

I feel blessed to have known Skip. Skip and Betty both were so good to our family, I couldn't begin to thank them. Growing up I was aware that my father held Skip in high regard. I Remember Dad saying “you can disagree with Skip, but you have to have to respect him.” And over time Skip helped Dad find faith himself. How do you thank someone for that? Skip was a man of deep faith and God used him in the lives of so many. I picture him hearing “ well done good and faithful servant”. He practiced his faith and we are better because of it. It was the highlight of Dad's week and through those hymn sings we got to know Skip and Betty and their family, soon became part of the Hymn Sing Program at Parkwood, and part of the family at the Rodney Mission. My memories of Skip & Betty and their living room 'Young Peoples' meetings in the late 1960's have never left my life … they formed many of my beliefs and established Christian standards that continue to this day. Skip gave me my first speaking opportunities in both the church in Rodney and special meetings in London. I left Rodney in 1970 for university, but Skips' values never left my life. I rejoice with you Betty and the family as you celebrate Skip's graduation in to heaven. Skip certainly earned the heavenly commendation, "Well Done Good & Faithful Servant, Enter Into The JOY of the LORD!"

I started to go to the Rodney sings with my Dad many years ago then I meant George we married and both went.Skip was certainly a man of God and he followed the lead of his Lord and Savior in every thing he did, God could not have given us a better leader for us to look up to. My heart is broken to hear of the passing of Uncle Skip. Although he was not my biological uncle, I have never known him by any other name. Uncle Skip and Aunt Betty were a huge part of my childhood. I had vacation bible school every summer with them when I was younger. I remember learning about Jesus from them. I remember my Grandparents going back to church because of the preaching of Uncle Skip. He was a part of my Mother's wedding and he visiting her frequently when she was in the hospital. Uncle Skip was the kind of person that you just loved instantly as soon as you seen him. He was very personalble and had such a wonderful gift of spreading the word of the Lord. I am thankful that I have such fond memories of him. Thank you for sharing him with our community, he will be missed dearly by everyone.

Skip had an incredible long lasting impact on many lives, mine included. I think one of the strongest characteristics I seen in a Skip was his incredibly humble heart and strong faith! He didn’t just talk about trusting God, he actually did it. His compassion for ALL souls, young and old, combined with his burden for them, was revealed in his constant sharing of The Gospel in Word AND Deed! One thing that I was always impressed me was that he never had an offering plate passed in the service, but kept a little box at the back of the church for “whosoever Wills” to give, could. And God always supplied. He will definitely live on in the many lives he touched and I’m sure that he, like William Carey said when he was ready to depart “When I am gone, don't talk about William Carey; talk about William Carey's savior.“. Thank God for Skips Saviour and His revealing Himself in His servant Skip. There’s no doubt that Skip heard, moments after his ‘graduation’ “well done my good and faithful servant@!

What an amazing man your dad was Sheila! My thoughts and prayers are with your mom and each beloved member of his family. God had a plan for him from the moment he was born and how he faithfully prayed and followed each step along the way! What a testimony his life was! I remember you pointing out his church when we visited Rodney a few years back and how The Chapelaires were going to sing in Rodney for the first time. All those years singing and never in Rodney! I laughed out loud thinking what a surprise was in store for all those in attendance! And to think you'd lived there all those years and they weren't aware of what a blessed treasure lived just down the street! Such happy times we shared together. I hope Gary was there to greet Skip when he arrived and realized he was your dad. Skip loved his Lord, his family and his country...... Well done good and faithful servant!

April 24 1976 Skip was there at my second birth. It was at a Gospel Sing in the old town hall, one of many that he and Betty hosted to share wonderful music, and the greatest story and invitation ever given.
Through the years I have witnessed his faithfulness to the Lord, through bad times and good, and watched his family follow in his and Betty's footsteps, sharing the Lord's love , each in their own unique way,
His heart was always in tune with Christ's desire that no one should perish, or be separated from God forever.
He loved Rodney, and Canada so, and was proud that he could serve in the navy and be among those honoured as veterans
One of my favourite verses is on a plaque he and Betty gave me for my baptism. It summed up his view of life too.
See you later Skip !

Though we grieve at our loss here on earth, those who knew “Skip” knows he wouldn’t want us to be sad with his passing. He would want everyone to continue to hear the “Good News” of the Gospel. Our hearts go out to you all in the loss of this precious life. May the Lord comfort and uphold you and give you joy as you reminisce over touching memories of a dear man who loved the Lord and devoted his life to serving God. After my husband had spent 3 1/2 months in Parkwood Rehab. and we had enjoyed the Parkwood Hymn Sing EVERY Thursday evening for that duration, we found out that the Hymn Sing had been started almost 50 years before, by Sheila's dad, Skip Patterson and his wife Betty. I told Sheila that the Hymn Sing had been such an uplifting highlight and source of spiritual encouragement during Dave's time in Rehab, that I wished we could have met her Dad and Mom who first started it all! Well, that opened the opportunity to visit this unique man and his sweet wife Betty. Skip retraced the path of Betty playing the piano for a friend in Parkwood 50 years previously which led to a regular weekly Hymn Sing Program that would continue to be a blessing to so many over the years. We found that Skip and Betty were also doing a weekly Hymn Sing at Beattie Manor where they were presently residing. I requested that Betty play a Hymn or two on the piano and we were so privileged to Sing "How Great Thou Art" together. Dear Skip at the age of 93 spoke lovingly of God's hand of guidance and goodness throughout the years and before we left he prayed for us by name, commending us to God's care and keeping. We are so grateful to have met this wonderful man and his loving wife Betty who have left us such treasured memories. To Skip's family we say, "You have a goodly heritage!" Philippians 4:7 says, "And the peace of God which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." With much love and sympathy, Dave & Yvonne Patten Straffordville Ontario.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Betty and all of Skip's family. Betty and Skip were good friends of my grandparents, Flossie and Lloyd Paton. My uncle Danny Paton loved Skip and often included him in his prayers. When I started attending the Mission, Skip and Betty welcomed me with open arms. Skip always had a warm hug given with that twinkle in his eye. He was my mentor, a source of inspiration and a true friend. We had weekly "check ins" on Fridays for several years, when we would have a heart to heart visit with much laughter and finishing with prayer. There were a few April Fool pranks that I had on Skip from his not so secret admirer including a special flower delivery to him. We shared many laughs . I so enjoyed his wry sense of humour and that laugh of his. My mom would make special delivery of homemade bread for him. My heart is saddened for the loss of Skip but rejoices that he has finally heard the words " well done good and faithful servant" from his Lord Jesus Christ. His life and ministry will continue to inspire me and be an example of how to live steadfastly with an unwavering faith. I am so thankful to have had Skip and Betty in my life. I look forward to seeing Skip again one day. What a time of rejoicing that will be! I praise God for his witness and testimony. May his family feel the loving arms of God surrounding them with love during this diffficult time. God bless each of you. Sending my love to you all and especially to Betty.

I Thank God for Skip & Betty Patterson.
Skip was an amazing man of God and he will be truly missed by all those who knew him.
I was blessed to be able to minister from time to time at Beattie Manor and loved to see Skip at the services. He loved Jesus and he loved to tell others about Gods love. One afternoon in particular Skip was sharing about the wages of sin being death, but the gift of God being eternal life. I never felt those words spoken with such love... God sending His only begotten Son to die for sinners to be saved.
And Skip was not ashamed to say he needed Jesus to save him. His favourite song we sang during the service was “The Old Rugged Cross”
He has touched so many lives including mine.

Betty and family,
I first heard the name Skip Patterson shortly after I became a Christian in 1979. With other men from Wardsville and area, I became involved with the organization of a monthly breakfast outreach to the community striving to reach men for Jesus Christ. We invited Skip to address one of these meetings and myself and many others were very touched by his testimony of how God had moved in his life. You, as family, know how "sold out for Christ" that Skip was. The effect this sold out life was, in his community and all the settings he ministered in, will be known one day when we rejoice with him in God's heaven. Many will be there because Skip preached salvation through the blood of Jesus Christ.
My prayers are with you.
